Professor Irene Ghobrial completed her M.D. at Cairo University, an Internal Medicine residency at Wayne State University, MI, USA and a Hematology/Oncology fellowship at Mayo Clinic, MN, USA. She is currently a Professor of Medicine and the Lavine Family Chair for Preventative Cancer Therapies at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, Harvard Medical School, MA, USA. Her work focuses on developing early interventions for multiple myeloma precursor conditions: monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (MGUS) and smoldering multiple myeloma (SMM). Professor Ghobrial developed a large, observational study for these precursor conditions (PCROWD) and the first US screening study (PROMISE) of 30,000 individuals at high risk of developing myeloma.
