Sonja Zweegman is Head of the Department of Hematology of VU University Medical Center in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She has a specific interest in multiple myeloma, from the clinic to clinical and translational research. Within the Department of Hematology, there is an active multiple myeloma translational research group focusing on finding new targets for treatment, with a specific research interest in the role of immune escape mechanisms and microenvironment-induced therapy resistance. Professor Zweegman is the Principal Investigator of several international studies for elderly multiple myeloma patients. Since 2013, she has been Vice-Chair of the HOVON (Hemato-Oncology Foundation for Adults in The Netherlands) Multiple Myeloma Working Group. Professor Zweegman is the author or co-author of several books and many papers published in peer-reviewed journals.
